The Cooper Puppies –

These puppies came into rescue the day they were born.  Actually, AS they were being born.  Since we were unable to come to an agreement on what breeds possibly went into their makeup, we ran a DNA test and found them to be:  48% American Staffordshire Terrier, 25% Labrador Retriever, 14% Boxer, 7% Perro de Presa Canario, 3% Bullmastiff, and 3% Shorthaired Dachshund.  (Go dachshund!!)

One would think that whoever would breed that mishmash - must also enjoy mismatched socks and disorganized Tupperware cabinets.  Let’s assume these are the result of – yet another – ‘unintentional’ breeding.  Serendipity, if you will!  Human irresponsibility aside -  these puppies are here, they need homes, and we are going to do our very best to find those homes that can make their genetic alphabet soup spell S-U-C-C-E-S-S.

These dogs are mutts.  Genetic diversity often increases the effectiveness of their immune systems, making them better able to overcome a variety of infectious diseases.  Mutts tend to be more laid back, easier to train, and more adaptable to an owner’s lifestyle and activity level.  They are all very thin coated making them a very low-shedding dog which is very helpful for people who have sensitivities to dog hair.

These breeds combined have produced some very sturdy little sacks of canine love who, so far, adore humans and the company of other dogs.  They are solid, durable, beefy – you get the picture.  Temperaments range from outgoing to laid back.  There are 5 Males and 2 Females for adoption - each one will grow into a large and powerful dog (DNA Test says anywhere between 50-80 lbs) without even the slightest effort on their part – which means that the effort will need to be on yours.

We have gotten the ball rolling for you - they are being well socialized with people, dogs, sounds, and environments.  Training has begun for them as far as crating and housebreaking.  Vetting/first shots (more will be needed) will take place prior to adoption.  But we will only have them a short time and what happens in their first year of life will dramatically affect who they become for the rest of their lives.

Anyone in rescue can and will tell you that the world has enough large-breed adult dogs with behavioral issues.  We are not here to contribute to producing more.  These are not dogs that you can fail to train and socialize.  Not because of COVID, or kid’s activities, or job demands, or life in general.  Getting one of these puppies will require a commitment to train, vet, socialize and manage these dogs so they can become well-rounded adult dogs.  This lifetime commitment needs to be a priority for any applicant.

Please make sure you have the time, energy, and desire to work with a  puppy through all that comes with puppy raising – from accidents to teething, and training to vetting before you apply.  Thank you!!
