Moxie is a 3 year old German Shepherd who presently weighs in at a fit 70 pounds.  She was rescued from a situation where she had been tied outside for her first 2 years and used for breeding.  When she was adopted, she readily adjusted to living inside and was quickly house trained. She enjoyed following the cues of her little terrier housemate and learned much from him.  Moxie is great on a leash, knows basic obedience, and although not food driven is very eager to please.

Moxie has come very far, but is somewhat anxious with new situations.  She does not like to be crated and will reluctantly do stairs.  She usually likes to ride in the car if she knows it’s a fun adventure (like a hike), but sometimes gets carsick if she’s nervous while riding.

She likes her toys and gathers them on her bed, sometimes she gathers her mom’s shoes too, but doesn’t chew them, just lays on them.  She takes treats with a soft mouth, and even gently picked up a baby bird one time and dropped it into her mom’s hand.  But, she and her terrier brother will chase the neighbor’s cat if it trespasses into their yard.

Some of her favorite things are: walks (she is great on leash!), hikes and wading in the creek, furry squeaky toys, bones to chew on and kongs full of treats, playing in snow and leaves, digging for or chasing critters outdoors, naps on her bed, belly rubs, and the companionship of another, more confident dog.  She also prefers women to men.

Moxie doesn’t like: being left alone or crated, hot weather, loud or over stimulating environments,

Her ideal home would have: another dog that is confident and close to her size; no small children or small pets; a quiet environment where someone is home a lot; a woman or a couple; confident owners who will provide leadership, show her boundaries and clear expectations, and provide a consistent routine; a fenced yard would be nice, but not required; activity and exercise for her mind and body are a must.
